Janis is an accomplished oil painter and has won many awards for his unique painting style. He melds elements of American Realism with Modernism/Impressionism for a dramatically contemporary visual result. Influenced by Picasso and others, Janis feels compelled to portray emotions and the landscape in a free-flowing, abstract way. His love of the environment, color and light come alive in his paintings. His work is done with a palette knife, often en plein air. Janis paints muscularly, enthusistically, vigorously outdoors throughout the year. He works to convey light glancing on a surface to communicate the spirit of place of each singular American setting.
