Ronald Salter

A resident of Winchester, Massachusetts and recent professor emeritus of Tufts University, where he taught German Literature and Art History, Salter holds an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts from Wayne State University and a Ph.D. in German Literature from the University of Michigan with a dissertation on Expressionist art and poetry . After many years of an almost exclusively scholarly involvement with the arts – most of his research and publications focus on the relations of literature and the visual arts – he returned to active painting in the mid-1980s under the tutelage of the North Shore landscape artist Paul Goodridge and has participated in numerous workshops. As a plein air painter of landscapes and seascapes, Salter finds his favorite motifs in rural New England, especially in the Boothbay region in Maine, where he spends his summers. He is a former member of the Winchester Art Association and current member of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation.
